Morning departure at 9am from your hotel in Ouarzazate to M’hamid and the dunes of Erg Lihoudi passing by Agdez, where the Dra’a valley starts, with a short stop for a coffee break. Afterwards, we drive off-road along the Dra’a valley and the ancient road of caravans as far as Zagora for lunch in a nice riad with swimming pool. In the afternoon the route continues to M’hamid which marks the end of the paved road and the beginning of the Sahara desert. Our trip continues by the 4×4 vehicle along the Sahara desert until we reach the dunes of Erg Lihoudi to take a camel ride and enjoy an unforgettable sunset from the summit (100m). The night will be spent in a comfortable desert camp, which is also the venue for dinner.
If you wake up early enough, you can watch the spectacle of the sunrise, when the colour of the dunes and the play of shadows are an awesome sight. After breakfast, there is time for a walk in the dunes and, the trip begins by driving from Erg Lihoudi to M’hamid for a visit. Afterwards, our trip continues by driving north to Tamegroute for a visit to the potteries. They are famous throughout Morocco for the green glaze. Tamegroute has a small medina of covered desert streets and an ancient Quranic library which exquisite hand-written Arabic texts. From here, the road leads north again to Zagora for lunch. We arrive back in Ouarzazate, at the end of the day, on the other side of the Anti-Atlas and the mountain pass of Tizi-n-Tinfifite (1660m).
