Essaouira
Morocco’s Atlantic Coast is gorgeous and, once you visit, you will want to come back. Essaouira, a relaxed town set 3 hours from Marrakech, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site – a protected city. The ramparts of Essaouria and the 16th century walled city offer astonishing views of the Atlantic Ocean. A day trip to Essaouira – one of the most charming medinas in all of Morocco – will give you ample time to visit the important monuments, the old fish markets, and the seaport. You’ll also have a chance to watch silver craftsmen and wood carvers at work.
Ouzoud Waterfalls
Morning departure at 8 o’clock from your hotel or riad in Marrakesh. The Ouzoud waterfalls are a 3 hour car ride away from Marrakech and are found in the middle of the Atlas Mountain range. Falling from a height in excess of 100 meters, the falls plunge into an endless series of pools. The gorge of the Ouzoud Waterfalls is home to families of Barbary apes and a variety of native avian species – a bird watcher’s delight! Many visitors to Morocco don’t expect this kind of “natural experience”, so a visit to beautiful Ouzoud comes as a refreshing surprise.
Ourika Valley
Morning departure at 9 o’clock from your hotel or riad in Marrakesh towards Ourika valley at about 1000 m altitude. Here you will discover small villages characterized by red mud brick houses hanging on the sides of the mountain, terraced agriculture, and river banks. Lunch will be served in a local restaurant. In the afternoon, there is time for a walk to reach the waterfalls in the Ourika valley before driving back to Marrakech.
kasbah of Telouet, High-Atlas, Ounila valley and Kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou
Morning departure at 8am from your hotel or riad in Marrakech to the kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, crossing the High-Atlas mountains and the Tizi-n-Tichka pass (the highest in the whole of Africa, 2260m). At panoramic viewpoints, there will apportunities to stop and take photos. After the Tichka pass, you leave the main road and take a side road to the kasbah of Telouet. It served as a palatial residence and the headquarters of the powerful Glaoui tribe. Their wealth came in part from the salt mines just outside the village. Then the route leads south down the Ounila valley to the kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou (which is the oldest and most famous kasbah in Morocco. It is also one of Morocco's nine UNESCO World Heritage sites) where lunch will be served. In the afternoon, a visit to the kasbah is scheduled before driving back to Marrakech along the High-Atlas mountains. We reach Marrakech by the end of the afternoon.
Asni Valley
Departure from Marrakech towards Asni, a typical valley of the High Atlas Mountains, characterized by a series of Berber villages. Asni is located almost at the foot of the Toubkal mountain, the highest point of North Africa (4167m). From here it is possible to continue until the Tin Mel Mosque at the bottom of the valley. Built in the early twelfth century, this restored mosque is an example of high architecture and unparalleled elegance. After having lunch in the High-Atlas mountains, the return to Marrakech will complete the trip at the end of the afternoon.
